We examine the when, where, and why of floods. 

Extreme flood observations are not well captured within instrumented records. To better anticipate future flood dynamics, we use natural records of past floods preserved in river landscapes. Natural flood records (paleofloods) allow us to identify long-term trends in flooding occurring during a range of climate conditions.
